Ok, so your one of those people who just has the worst kind of schedule known to mankind. You get up at 5am so you can get to the office by 7am to start your day. You have to go to a parent-teachers meeting at your kid’s school right after work, then you have to take your kid to soccer practice after that. You seem to have days like this almost all the time. You never seem to have much time for yourself between all of the things you have to do every day, so how can you possibly find the time to incorporate exercise into your day? Exercise takes time, and time is one luxury you just don’t have.

Well, there is a way to get some exercise into your day and that way is to simply exercise at your desk. No, that was not a typo. Here is a little routine that you can do right at your desk. It doesn’t take up much time and while it will not make you a candidate for the next fitness competition, it will give your muscles enough work to stay firm.

Complete one set of each exercise in order. Do 10 to 20 repetitions of each exercise, and follow with 1 to 2 more sets in order if time permits it.

Chair crunch:
Sit tall in your chair with your feet flat on the floor. Begin to slowly round your upper back downward until you feel your abdominal muscles tighten. Hold for 3-5 seconds, and then return to the start position.

Squats:
Stand up in front of your chair. Sit back into a squat like you are sitting back down in your chair, keeping your weight on your heels and your knees behind your toes. When you are almost touching your chair with your butt, push yourself back to the standing position using your leg muscles.

Calf raises:
Stand in front of your desk and put your hands on the desk for balance. Lift yourself up onto the balls of your feet. Hold for 3 to 5 seconds, and then lower yourself back down to the floor.

Desk pushup:
Stand 4 to 5 feet away from your desk and put of your hands on the edge of the desk. Relax your lower body and using just your arms, lower your chest down toward the desk and stop when your chest is about 3 to 6 inches away from it. Then push yourself back up to the starting position again using only your arms.

Seated triceps lift backs:
Sit tall in your chair. Put your arms down at your sides with your palms facing forward. With your arms strait and elbows locked, slowly bring your arms up behind you until you feel your triceps muscles tighten. Hold for 3 to 5 seconds, then lower your arms back to the starting position.

Seated bicep curls:
Sit tall in your chair. Start with one arm down at your side, palm facing forward in a fist. Put your other hand over your fist and push against it for resistance while bringing your fist up toward your shoulder. Once your fist is close to your shoulder, lower it back down to the starting position maintaining constant resistance with the other hand throughout the entire movement. Complete all repetitions for that set, then switch sides and repeat.

After you have completed each exercise for the amount of repetitions and sets you can do, sit down and straighten your legs. Now gently reach for your toes until you feel you can’t go any further, hold for 10 seconds (do not bounce), then return to the starting position. Next, reach your arms out to your sides as far as you can. Keeping them fully extended, bring them slowly to the front and cross them over each other as far as you can. Hold for 10 seconds, and then return them to your sides. Now, reach your arms over your head as far as you can, hold for 10 seconds, and then return them to your sides.

Taking the time to do this simple but effective exercise routine at the office will help to keep you toned and you can do it even with the worst schedule possible because it can be done during your lunch break and still leave you enough time to eat your lunch.

Child support enforcement is a growing area of family law. Once child support has been ordered by a Court, or agreed upon by two parents, it is not always smooth sailing. Although we hear a lot about “deadbeat parents” (and there are both moms and dads who are deadbeats), the overwhelming majority of parents pay support and take care of their children as agreed upon or ordered. But, when that is not the case, you have to know how child support enforcement works.

Child support enforcmement in one form or another is available in every state for collecting against deadbeat parents. Those child support enforcement remedies include wage garnishment, intercepting tax refunds, suspending a driver’s or professional license, and more.

In addition to the child support enforcement remedies that the individual states provide, the is a federal remedy which is often overlooked, but which is very effective. That child support enforcement remedy is the Child Support Recovery Act of 1992.

Under the Child Support Recovery Act, the failure to pay child support, if willful, is a federal crime if the parent who owes support lives in a different state than the parent who is receiving the support. Relying on this criminal statute can be a very effect child support enforcement tool.

The purpose of the Federal Child Support Recovery Act was to prevent a parent from moving to a different state or a foreign jurisdiction for the purpose of evading a child support order. However, since we live in an incredibly mobile society, it is not unusual to have a support paying parent in one state and a support receiving parent living in another state. When that happens, the Federal Act is available as a remedy for interstate child child support enforcement.

A first offense under the Federal Child Support Recovery Act can result in a prison sentence of up to six months in addition to monetary fines. A second conviction can result in more jail time and greater fines.

The Child Support Recovery Act was amended in 1998 and is now know as the Deadbeat Parents Punishment Act. The 1998 Act makes it a federal crime to travel to another state to avoid a child support obligation, if that support obligation is greater than $5000 and has remained unpaid for more than one year. If the obligation is greater than $10,000 and has remained unpaid for more than 2 years, if is a federal crime under the 1998 Deadbeat Parents Act simply to have not paid the child support.

The penalties available for child support enforcement under the 1998 Deadbeat Parents Act include prison sentences, fines and restitution. Restitution is the payment of money to the custodial parent in an amount equal to the child support arrearage existing at the time that the defendant is sentenced. Probation can also be imposed and can include conditions such as the payment of child support and mandatory employment. A violation of those terms of probation can result in the imposition of additional prison time.

If you are owed child support and the parent who is supposed to pay lives in another state, consult with an attorney to discuss whether the Federal Deadbeat Parents Act can help you with child support enforcement and collect the support due to you.

In today’s world and high divorce rate, men and women should be aware of some legal issues to protect not only themselves, but also their children and any assets you may have. I will explain some of the biggest legal mistakes people overlook. It’s much easier to prevent problems than to fight to fix them later.

  1. Prenuptial Agreement. I know the words scare everyone. But what is it? Simply put, a prenuptial agreement is when a couple (before they marry) decides how to divide property if they divorce or one of them dies. Usually there is information in there about having a will that carries out the intent of the prenuptial agreement and waiving rights given by law, to stay in accordance with the prenuptial. Most agreements are upheld if both parties provide full disclosure of their assets and liabilities. Have both parties been represented or had the opportunity to be represented by independent legal counsel? Did both parties enter in voluntarily and of free will? Poor old Marla Maples. She didn’t get much from her divorce, right?

  2. Keep your property separate. I don’t mean just your house or other property. I mean stocks, checking accounts and the like. Most people get burned when they commingle finances together. If you have a separate account, keep it separate. If you need to move money, move an amount equal to your paycheck so if things go south, it will be easier to prove you were just putting your paycheck into the joint account instead of any of your original asset money. Otherwise you have to prove what portion of the money was yours prior to it being commingled together. It’s almost impossible to do.

  3. If your spouse has a business, you should know what it is and what they are doing in the business. If an unfortunate event occurred, could you take over their business without befalling tough financial times yourself? Would you have to take what little life insurance you had from your spouse and pay off bills from the business? How tragic and vulnerable you can be when you are grieving for a loved one. Plan ahead. Know what’s going on.

  4. Purchase life insurance. I know it’s like throwing money down the drain. But not really. If something happens to your spouse, then it wasn’t wasted. I’d rather waste the money and have piece of mind. What about disability insurance? Could you survive if your spouse became disabled and was unable to manage their business or job?

  5. Know what you own. Review bank statements and keep a list of your bank account numbers. Don’t sign blank forms and review your tax forms before signing them. Nobody plans to divorce.

  6. If you start a business, think about incorporating or using a Limited Liability Corporation, LLC. Opening a business is easy. Keeping it open is hard. Pay all your taxes as some can come back to you personally. Follow all the labor laws. Provide insurance not only for your business, but workers compensation, too. Liability insurance isn’t required legally, but we don’t live in fantasy world where nobody sues.

  7. Put the pen down. Don’t sign liabilities you don’t want to be liable for. Have your lawyer review documents if you don’t understand them. Don’t sign a quick claim deed. There would be no reason unless your spouse is up to no good.

  8. Don’t forget the IRS. If you don’t pay taxes on your business, these taxes can come back to haunt you personally. And if you sign a joint tax return, you can be liable for any tax issues your spouse inadvertently creates later on. Your spouse may be long gone or unable to pay, but the IRS sees that you signed your name on the tax return, too.

  9. Plan and prepare for your death or incapacity. Death is inevitable. Incapacity, maybe not. Do you have a will or a trust set up? If you want, list specific things in your will that you want to go to certain individuals. Durable power would be good to have incase you are unable to make decisions.

  10. Organize your paperwork. I know we don’t have time to spend wasting on sorting out our business or property. Keep it all in one file. Ever have to go through a deceased loved one’s records to try to figure out what they had and what their final wishes were? Keep your records for your business so your employees could keep the place running if you were gone for a few months. You need to maintain your customer base so if you sell the business, its still worth something or doesn’t burden your family with personal debt.

I hope these ten items were helpful, if not somewhat scary, to get you on the right patch to secure your personal future no matter what legal problems you may face.

The symptoms of ADHD can be devastating for school-aged children, but they can be even more debilitating for adults who feel like they don’t have a place to turn for help. Adult ADHD has the same symptoms as those present in children (including inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity). The fast-paced lifestyle that many adults lead also adds stress that can aggravate the symptoms. THE SYMPTOMS

1. Inattention.

The first symptom of adult ADHD is the inability to focus and lack of attention. This includes not being able to follow through on tasks, not being able to focus on what other people are saying and not being able to organize thoughts, tasks and activities.

2. Hyperactivity.

The second symptom of adult ADHD is hyperactivity. People who suffer from this symptom feel the need to fidget with hand and feet. They also tend to get up out of their seat often (even when it’s not an appropriate time) or simply feel an urge to move around. They also tend to talk excessively and are always “on the go”.

3. Impulsivity.

The third symptom of adult ADHD is impulsivity. People who have difficulty waiting their turns, who often interrupt and who answer questions before they’ve been completed may suffer from this symptom.

THE “TREATMENT”

Training martial arts solves for these symptoms of adult ADHD. To be successful in whatever martial art you choose, you need a high level of physical control. The only way to reach this is through lots of practice and self-discipline. This ability to control your body also helps you to discipline your mind. These two skills feed off of one another and carry over to other parts of your life. The more you learn to control your body, the more you control your mind. The more you can control your mind, the more you’ll be able to control your body. This control carries over to other parts of your life as well: Once you can control your body while training, you’ll be able to start controlling your urges to move and fidget. The same goes for your mind. As you discipline your mind, you’ll be able to concentrate and focus on your daily activities, your job and your relationships.

In addition to practice and self-discipline, martial arts teach breathing techniques. Many of them use the slow breathing techniques that have been used by martial artists for centuries. Similar to how specialists help people deal with panic attacks and stress, martial arts use breathing techniques for both physical and mental health and to create the body and mind connection. This connection allows you to run at a peaceful and happy level because you have achieved mastery over your mind and body.

If you’re still not convinced, take the word of someone who’s experienced the effects personally: Jody Walsh spent most of his life not finishing projects and dealing with hyperactivity. He wanted a way to treat his ADHD symptoms without relying on medication for his entire life. As an intuitive and spiritual teacher, my mission in life has long been to guide people toward creating and experiencing the kind of lives their hearts desire. Lives that are physically grounded, emotionally creative, and intellectually engaging, where one feels loved, listened to, intuitive, inspired, and spiritually fulfilled. I not only believe this kind of life is possible, I actually believe it is our birthright and our Creator’s natural plan for us.

Unfortunately very few people are actually having this kind of life experience. More common are people who are feeling exhausted, overworked, overwhelmed and emotionally drained and empty. Their physical bodies are suffering, their creativity dried up, and their sense of personal direction veering way off course. Not only do many people feel seriously out of balance, they are in many cases even having what I call “out-of-body” lives where they are merely existing and barely experiencing life at all.

What I share with my clients is that most of our problems can be traced to one of our seven psychic energy centers, known to the metaphysically minded as “chakras”, from their Hindi term which means spinning wheel, which from an energetic perspective is what a chakra looks like. These centers are satellites of activity that govern our physical, emotional, psychic and spiritual well being. In other words, they give us the ability to not only live our lives, but to actually love them.

To the rational Western mind the ideas that we are comprised of energy centers that usher in life force and assist us in channeling our expression and creativity into the physical plane seems far fetched and unlikely. And yet even our own language reveals our natural intuitive awareness of these centers and how they affect our lives. We say, for example,

“He galls me!” of someone who invades our boundaries and overrides our authority.

“Wow, that knocks me off my feet” of the new love interest that upsets our concentration and routine.

“She has a heart of gold” of someone who opens our heart and touches us in a meaningful way.

When this satellite system is balanced and operating as it is intended, we experience life in an energetically fulfilling way. We feel grounded, emotionally safe, clear in our decisions and self direction, open to giving and receiving love, effective and creative in all forms of expression, inspired, imaginative and intimately connected to our spirit, others and to God. Such a life is filled with blessings, grace synchronicities and abundant satisfaction.

The key to having such lives lies in keeping these centers balanced. This may sound difficult and yet one more thing “to do” in our jam-packed existence, but in fact it really isn’t, especially once you understand what throws them out of balance in the first place. . Here are some great remedies to demonstrate the principles from my latest book “True Balance: A Commonsense Guide for Renewing Your Spirit”. They are practical, playful, simple–and the best part is, they work. These are not another round of .should do.s.. We all know what we .should. do, but who has the time? These are immediate and appealing remedies that you will enjoy doing, and will bring results.

Your sense of security is found in the first chakra. You can tell you have a solid foundation, or first chakra, if you aren’t anxious or worry much. Need a quick fix to feel grounded? Need to take a stand but feel you.re on shaky ground? Wear really good socks. You’ll notice it.s impossible to have a really good day when you have a hole in your sock! When you really need to feel solid, rub Vicks VapoRub on the soles of your feet. Take a grounding walk and bring your awareness to the moment, thinking of nothing else except how you are connecting to the earth, and how it is supporting you right now.

Your second chakra governs sensuality, creativity and vitality. When it is balanced you feel alive, engaged and excited by life. You feel sexy, creative and joyful. When this chakra is out of balanced you will feel depressed, tired, uninterested in sex, and basically emotionally flat. Working with clay is a favorite second chakra remedy of mine. There is something fundamentally gratifying to your sensual nature when you slap a big piece of wet slippery clay down on a hard surface and begin to shape it into something meaningful. This remedy brings out feelings and stimulates your imagination and creativity at the same time. Baking bread is another wonderful second chakra remedy. As with clay, there is something very sensually satisfying in working with dough, slapping it onto a hard surface and kneading it. .

The third chakra governs personal sovereignty. When balanced you feel in charge of your life and make decisions that support you in every way. When imbalanced, you get pushed around by others. You say “yes” when you mean “no” or vice-versa, and basically feels out of control. To rebalance your third chakra, practice saying no. Say .NO, NO, NO, with great gusto and enthusiasm. Also practice other versions of a saying no, such as .Gee, I wish I could. I would have loved to at any other time. Gosh, it.s a shame that I won.t be able to. If you are a real sucker for intrusion, do not answer your telephone. Leave a message on your answering machine instead that say, Hi. I’m out getting a meaningful life. Leave a positive and supportive message to wish me well!

The fourth chakra governs our ability to give and receive love. When balanced we feel part of things, generous and loving. We feel physically peaceful and serene. When our heart chakra is imbalanced we feel lonely, unloved, and unlovable. To bring balance to your heart, surprise someone with a half-dozen addressed, stamped postcards ready to send to their closest friends and family. Then all they have to do is jot a quick note of love and appreciation and drop it in the mailbox.

Have trouble speaking up or do you feel like you.re not being heard? Have really good ideas but hate to fight to get a word in edgewise? That’s a fifth chakra imbalance, center of personal expression. Nothing activates the throat chakra like an open heart, and nothing opens the heart faster than singing. Sing in the shower, sing while you’re walking down the street. Bring breath into your lungs and vibrate the sound through your whole body, bringing with it healing energy. Make positive predictions throughout your day. And once a day, practice saying, “I am” and filling in the blank with a truth of who you really are and who you really want to be.

The sixth energy center, located between your eyebrows, is the center of your personal vision. It influences our ability to see the world and ourselves clearly and without negativity. Remind yourself of the beauty and abundance of the world with a magnificently displayed bowl of fresh fruit, a beautiful photo or work of art, or a meditation garden. There is nothing more soothing to the spirit than an aquarium full of tropical fish. Even a few goldfish in a bowl are fascinating to watch and reconnect you to the subtle and gloriously beautiful world of nature.

Your connection to spirit is located in your seventh energy center, or crown chakra. It focuses your attention on the spiritual meaning of your life. To reconnect with spirit, open your eyes, ears and heart for signs of spirit all around you. Pay attention to the miracles unfolding before your eyes–the first buds of spring, the first harvests of summer. In the morning, consciously bless yourself, thanking God for giving you one more day to enjoy the world around you. Talk to God every day, and ask God to redirect your life, helping you moment to moment find your way to the highest possible good.
