Travel Breaks for the Environmentally Minded Tourist
Thousands of snowboarders will shortly be finding their ski gear and scooting forth in search of the deepest snow. And undoubtedly the results of our carbon footprint will be roughly as far down the list of vacation to dos as a turkey sandwich after Christmas. Just last winter, a late snow made the the tabloids and tourists were terrified about the flecks of snow disappearing almost as soon as they landed.
Ski holiday company Chalet 1802, located at the foot of Mount Blanc in Chamonix Haute Savoie in the Alps, is one of the only independent businesses to go carbon neutral and give snowboarders an environmentally friendly alternative whilst reserving their skiing holidays. Chalet 1802 proprietor KELEOS stated: Last season was quite a surprise with the hottest winter in fifty five years in Europe. French resorts such as Val-d’Isere, Tignes and Val Thorens lacked clients. It was balmy and the snowfall didnt settle so much of the early skiing season in the Alps was patchy. We resolved to become carbon negative to help preserve the ski resort.
KELEOS said: We’re not assaying to prescribe to guests only we believe its of import to grant them the selection without augmenting the price of the ski holiday. If the customer book with us and goes to our skiing chalet they can more than off set their carbon footprint and we take in the added costs. Of course we still have a sauna and a hot tub - holiday makers wish for lavishness but not at the expense of the alps mountains, so we viewed means of decreasing the results of a client driving over here for a winter holiday.”
Chalet 1802 have also joined with group Climate Care, which tackles global warming by making C02 reductions on behalf of people and businesses.
