Space counts. Especially in our world today where the population is rising at a fast rate and people want to recreate the feeling of space. However, not everybody could afford a gargantuan place. Big places are not at all that practical, either, in term of finances. That is why it is important that you know how to maximize the space to create a feeling of spaciousness even with small houses or apartments. Such ability is as important as choosing an ERP software that supports CRM.
Here are some of the things that you can try even if you are doing a DIY bathroom renovation at home.
1. Get out your paint rollers. Using lighter colors can make a room seem brighter and larger as dark colors make rooms look smaller.
2. Use smaller pieces of furniture or one large piece. At one time, almost everyone wanted a sectional sofa. While it provides a lot of seating in a living room, it also takes up a lot of space that you might not have in a smaller dwelling. You can still have a fair amount of seating with armchairs and a loveseat. Forget about the overstuffed furniture as well. A simple couch works better when you’re working with limited floor space.
3. Choose a hardwood floor or a light area rug. Dark just means cozy no matter if it is furniture, paint or flooring. One exception is a hardwood floor; just the echo as you walk across it makes the room feel larger. For those who can’t afford hardwood floors (those babies don’t come cheap), try laminate flooring that has a hardwood texture. A taupe or beige carpet (if not in a room to be used by little kids) also adds to the illusion of a larger space.
4. Use open lighting schemes. Lamps in a room reflect on intimacy. When you are trying to make a small space seem larger, use more overhead lighting. Try track lighting, ceiling fans or chandelier lights. Letting more light in will open every corner of the room. Keep your curtains and blinds light colored and easily opened as well. During the day let the sun shine in through them to help create a positive, wide open appearance.
5. Create a path through your room. Bobbing and weaving through furniture and floor lamps says “small.” However you arrange your furniture, create a definite path from one side of the room to the other. You and your family won’t feel cramped and pressed for space. It sure helps if you have to walk through the room in the dark during the middle of the night too. Bye bye bruised shins and stubbed toes.
Is space a challenge for you? Use the above suggestions to open up your rooms while making the most of the space that you do have.

Standing out at a Job Fair can make a difference in your job hunt. Career Fairs are starting to pick up, and a major job search company is running some nice ones, called Targeted Job Fairs. At a San Jose Area Job Faire in early 2010, 10 companies as showing up, and a major job search company has 82 job faires scheduled for 2010 across the US.

How do you stand out at a Job Faire? The contention can be substantial, but you can help yourself jump out from the bunch with early planning. At AA-Careers, we have a straight-forward step-by-step process to get ready. Planning to go? Here’s how to prepare:

First, investigate the companies that are going and pick your objectives. Use the World Wide Web to research the companies that are there before you even decide to go. Go to their web sites and see if they have their job openings listed. Pick a sane number to target, and get ready to spend up to an hour researching each one. It’s hard to do more than 7 in a day, and 3-5 is a much more reasonable target. For each hiring organization, you want to know: recent news, key product lines, and contacts you know. Try to see if you know anyone at the target companies. You should end up with a page or two of research for each company/job.

Second, if there are job openings on the web, read them to see what the organization is looking for. Create a mapping of your achievements and skills to the demands of the job. Make the terminology match. If the hiring organization calls customers "clients", your resume should do the same thing. The achievements should be written in the style of the hiring company.

Third, create a ‘brief sales pitch’ for each likely organization/position combination. Write down a 60 second ‘thumbnail’ that you can repeat out loud showing why you are a special candidate for that position. You’ll use this in your resume and when you meet the team from the company at the job booth.

Fourth, modify your resume for each position. The objective on your resume should exactly match the position you’re aiming for. The executive summary should be a written form of your “mini sales pitch” for the job. Then choose the accomplishments and skills that most clearly match the job requirements. Especially at a Job Fair, the purpose of your resume is a sales tool for you – to get you on-site job interviews. It should be simple to see that you’re a fit based on your resume.

Fifth, dress and prepare as if you’re doing on-site interviews. Dress nicely and be well groomed. Don’t overdress (this isn’t a date!) and don’t underdress (no jeans or t-shirts, no matter how much you paid for them). Avoid strong cologne or perfume.

Finally, rehearse your ‘mini-sales-pitch’. Collect your research and the resume for each position - bring a couple of copies for each – and put each in a clearly tagged folder. Keep them in a lightweight briefcase or folio.

Remember to smile, and good hunting!

Windows Registry is the database used to store configurations, settings and options for Microsoft Windows systems. The database has a hierarchical structure.

The Windows Registry provides information about the settings for low-level operating system and applications running on the platforms. The kernel, user interface, device drivers, services, SAM and third party applications are some platforms which use the Window Registry.

Windows registry also offers a way to access counters to profile performance of the system.

At the time registry was first coupled with Windows 3.1, its main aim was to store information on configuration of components based on COM.

The use of registry was inflated with the launch of Windows 95 and Windows NT so as to organize the surplus of INI files per program, which had been used earlier to amass settings of configuration for Windows programs.

Keys and values are the two basic components of the Registry.

Registry Values refer to the pairs of name/data stored within the keys.

The Windows API functions, querying and manipulating values of registry, get value names in a different way from the key path. They may also use handle which identify the parent key.

Although, the term is a little bit confusing, with values resembling associative arrays, wherein standard definition suggests that a key is the name portion of value.

These terms are an archive from 16-bit registry in Windows

Theres provision for manually editing registry in MS Windows by carrying out the execution of regedt32.exe and regedit.exe in Windows directories.

Although, neglectfully editing the registry can result in irreparable damage or you end up with a slow Vista. Therefore, Microsoft and several industry experts, including the writers and editors of leading trade magazines, have highly recommended to perform backups of the registry prior to editing it.

A direct implementation of the current registry tool was seen in Windows 3.x, known as the “Registration Editor” or “Registration Info Editor”.

It was mainly only an applications database that facilitates editing embedded OLE objects.

But the users need to be cautious as the two editors on the aforementioned platforms differ tremendously.

For the first time, the two programs were merged into one by Windows XP, which adopted the traditional REGEDIT.EXE as interface and added to it the functionality of REGEDT32.EXE.

With REGEDIT.EXE being the enhanced editor and the other one, i.e. REGEDT32.EXE, invoking the former one, there doesnt seem any difference on the newer operating systems including Windows XP.

The Registry Editor permits users to carry out functions that follow:

  • Importing and exporting .REG files, exporting data in the binary hive format
  • Creating, manipulating, renaming and deleting registry keys, subkeys, values and value data
  • Setting permissions based on ACLs (Windows NT-based systems only)
  • Loading, manipulating and unloading registry hive format files (Windows NT-based systems only)
  • Remotely editing the registry on another networked computer

Registry editing in Linux is also possible by making use of Offline NT Password and Registry Editor for editing files.

The Obama Administration has just launched an ‘app store’ that is expected to get the federal government riding onto the era of cloud computing.
With this change, government employees are going to start using Gmail, WordPress, YouTube and related services that store data on private internet servers as opposed to paying for the servers using public funds.

The process of moving to cloud computing is going to be slow but the transition will gradually pick up its pace, says US chief information officer Vivek Kundra in a blog post. He also wrote that the current policies are still way behind the new trends and this has caused unnecessary restrictions on the efficient use of the latest technologies.

The app store is going to allow federal employees to conduct official business for the government and is not open to the public.
Google has also announced on Tuesday that it has created a government cloud where Google computer servers are going to be used for storing public data come 2010. According to the technology giant’s blog post, the dedicated space is going to be allotted for the needs of the federal, state and local government.

Both projects, the app store and the government cloud, will allow the government to save money while at the same time giving its employees access to various tools that are commonly used by the private sector. The measures coincide with the current administration’s efforts to keep the government updated with the latest technologies.
Kundra added that the cost savings brought by the change are going to be significant. The federal government currently spends about $75 billion each year on information technology including managed hosting.

Today, most small to medium sized organizations understand outbound fax automation as the ability to send faxes with their computers using the email or internet. This is only the tip of the business productivity iceberg. Outbound fax automation is about saving time and money by eliminating manual fax creation and submission. It is the use of a computer based faxing solution in a specific manner for sending outbound faxes. All computer based fax solutions ARE NOT created equal. The selection of the best solution will depend on budget, fax volume, identified fax workflow inefficiencies and future eDocument Delivery initiatives.

For outbound faxing, the top 5 ways to increase the productivity are:

1. Automated Desktop Faxing
2. Fax Broadcasting
3. Sending Faxes using Email Distribution Groups
4. Fax-Enabling Billing and Invoicing Applications
5. Outbound Fax Management

Automated Desktop Faxing

Most office administrators or office managers are involved in the mailing or faxing of documents. These documents typically include reports, newsletters, invoices, announcements and marketing literature. The manual mailing and faxing of these types of documents is labor intensive, cost prohibitive and significantly time consuming. Automated desktop faxing eliminates printing, mailing and faxing of reports, form letters, newsletters, announcements etc by hand. Automated desktop faxing happens directly from your computer. Faxing tools are installed within your document processing applications Microsoft Word, Crystal Reports etc as well as your contact database applications (Microsoft Excel, Access, Goldmine, Maximizer, etc).

Fax Broadcasting

Fax broadcasting is another form of automated outbound fax automation. It significantly reduces repetitive steps and increases the speed of delivery of documents. For many SMB’s fax broadcasting is a vital part of their ongoing marketing, product announcement and customer communication strategies. With the influx of email spam and spam filters, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to reach your own customers. Sending a fax often eliminates this concern, because unlike email, faxes are always read and delivered when recipients are properly identified. When selecting a fax broadcasting solution ensure it is capable of performing the following steps:

1. Ability to create a highly legible faxable document.
2. Ability to create or use an existing database list from a variety of formats (CSV, TEXT, EXCEL, ACCESS, SQL,)
3. Ability to map database fields to the content of the fax document for personalization.
4. Ability to manage the entire process easily. Management includes tracking, monitoring and modification and resubmission.

Sending Faxes Using Email Distribution Lists

Fax automation is about leveraging existing technologies and resources. Sending faxes using email distribution groups allows you to use a centralized phone book or recipient list. It eliminates the need to create or maintain separate phone books. In addition, third party applications and other databases have links directly into email contacts or distribution groups. The most common locations for prospect or existing client records and detailed information are contained within a contact manager, sales application or Microsoft Outlook Contacts.

Note: Sending faxes using email distribution groups IS NOT the same as sending faxes through email. While sending faxes through email provides a central repository for most electronic communication methods, there are also several drawbacks including:

Sending faxes through email eliminates the real-time transaction process or benefit of sending a fax.
Each fax sent directly from email creates an individual email message with a [FAX] recipient type which is subsequently stored on your local machine and email server.
Depending on size fax recipient lists, sending faxes through email using distribution lists may significantly slow down your email server or network.
Addition disk space is used in sending faxes through email.

Fax Enabling Billing and Invoicing Applications

Outbound fax automation is about improving cash flow through improved accounts receivables and reduces costs. Traditionally, accounts receivable departments have manual data entry systems to which purchase orders are entered and processed. Once processed, invoices are manually printed and mailed to clients for payment. Printing, envelope stuffing and mailing of invoices is also a labor and resource intensive task. In addition, USPS mail costs 0.39 or greater for deliver and takes on average 48 hours for delivery and payment of the invoice generally occurs several days later. All of these manual processing steps and consumable costs are eliminated through outbound fax automation. Your billing and invoicing application can be fax-enabled and with a simple push of the key on your keyboard, invoices are be delivered to clients in seconds - with confirmation receipts!

Outbound Fax Management

Outbound fax management helps businesses grow in several areas simultaneously. Paper intensive SMB’s use outbound fax on a daily basis to market, generate and close business. It is rare that a day will go by without sending a fax. Fax management involves the management of all outbound fax transmissions. This includes the review of fax usage (by department) in terms of transmission time, delivery destinations (by area code and/or recipient) and subject matter (invoice, P.O., expense report, announcement, newsletter).

Summary

When the best outbound fax automation solution is implemented, organizations will see high productivity gains and tangible results in lead generation, customer response, accounts receivables, decreased manual labor burden costs and increased worker productivity. Outbound fax automation also provides insight to other organizations deficiencies and in many cases leads to the implementation of other eDocument initiatives.
